This apartment in Madrid's El Retiro neighborhood has been designed with a program that eliminates unnecessary partitions and a refined interior design. In the master bedroom, a subtle separation between the bed and bathroom is barely noticeable.
This is an interior renovation of a residential and office building in the heart of Madrid. The project was based on the following requirements: achieving the maximum amount of space compatible with the owners' required rooms, allowing sunlight to reach all rooms, using natural and fine materials, and achieving a good level of thermal and acoustic insulation, both with the exterior and between the rooms of the house.
The home has a total of 500 square meters of built area and is divided into three main areas: a central one, which houses the public areas; a western one, which houses the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom; and the guest bedroom.
Every element of the home is handcrafted and custom-made; however, it features the latest technology in its facilities, serving the comfort and health of its residents, without detracting from the natural light and ventilation.
Each bedroom has its own bathroom. The bathrooms are located indoors to enhance natural lighting, but interior glass has been added to allow natural light to enter. The Jacuzzi and freestanding sink in the master bedroom are particularly noteworthy, constructed from natural stone and mirrored glass to play with natural light and enhance the views.
The master bedroom and bathroom share a common space, perfectly defined by the sink, which features a transparent glass panel that, in its center, becomes a mirror. This provides ample light into the bathroom, which benefits from the spaciousness and overall layout of the entire bedroom.
The sink is a carved marble piece with a large rectangular basin over which two faucets flow. The sanitary fixtures are by Duravit, and the heated towel rail is by Tubes. The Tandem towel rail is by Antonio Lupi. The ceramics are by Vives.
