Valencia named World Design Capital 2022
For the first time in history, a Spanish city has been elected by the World Design Organization (WDO)
The World Design Organization announced that Valencia has been named World Design Capital 2022 as a result of its longstanding design legacy. The Spanish city of Valencia won the final designation against Bengaluru from India. Valencia´s bid, articulated a compelling proposal that clearly demonstrates “the effective application of Mediterranean design, of design for change and design for the senses as a key reference to improve quality of life”, a different view on geographical implications with its strategical location on the Mediterranean coast, but also on aesthetics, ethics, philosophic and politics. World Design Capital is a biennial designation and Valencia is the eighth city to hold it. Valencia World Design Capital 2022 includes a compelling agenda with an event programme, that will cover all design disciplines.
