González Morgado Arquitectura recently redesigned the interior of an old house known as Domus Atrio, located in the center of the Andalusian city of Lepe, in southwestern Spain. This house, built in the late 19th century, combines Roman, Muslim, and Andalusian influences.
Evoking the traditional domus (house) of ancient Rome, the rooms are arranged around three courtyards. To preserve the authentic essence of this dwelling, the architects updated the room layout and decor. The minimalist interior design underlines both the spirit of the Domus Atrio and its original features—the elaborate wrought ironwork, wooden windows, hydraulic tiles, and brick details—and its central atrium floods the space with natural light.
Soft tones predominate, providing a relaxing atmosphere highlighted by the sobriety of Vibia's furniture and lighting. Arik Levy's Wireflow lamp perfectly illuminates several key points and acts as a contemporary counterpoint to the home's timeless character. In the entrance, a Wireflow pendant welcomes guests. Inside, above a seating area, the ethereal presence of another Wireflow pendant creates a visual link with the black color of the bookcase and the two Barcelona chairs by Mies Van Der Rohe that it illuminates. Wireflow Lineal was chosen by the designers to install above the dining table. Replicating the shape of the cast iron window frames, the length and slender lines of this Wireflow contrast with the white walls and marble floors of this space, providing a striking graphic note.
