Born in Madrid in 1974, he studied Interior Design in London and Paris. He began his training at Fábrica, the design and communication academy founded by Benetton, where he worked with Oliveiro Toscani, who would soon make him head of its design department. It was at Fabrica that he collaborated for the first time with BD on the Mail Me project.
In 2004, he decided to strike out on his own and settled in Barcelona, where he began working on various projects and exhibiting his work in art galleries. His Mediterranean Digital Baroque exhibition at the David Gallery in London, along with the bathroom collection designed for Artquitect, marked the beginning of his meteoric international career.
This was followed by numerous exhibitions and installations in important galleries around the world, such as Vivid Gallery, Mak Vienna, Groninger Museum, Aram Gallery, London's Design Museum, Mudac Museum, Gallery Thomas in Munich, Walker Art Center, Centre Pompidou... Today, these works can still be found in permanent exhibitions in some of these museums.
He has created original designs for brands as diverse as Bd, Lladró, Bisazza, Swarovski, Camper, Metalarte, Mooi, Baccarat, Parachilna, Eco Wallpaper, and more. He has received numerous awards and recognitions, most recently the 2016 German Design Awards for the Frames armchair for the Valencian firm Expormim. He is also currently the director of the Master of European Design Labs at the European Institute of Design in Madrid, now in its fourth edition, within the Masters of Design and Innovation Platform.
The designer has offices in Italy, Japan, and Spain. Each of Jaime Hayón's designs is expressed in a unique and exceptional language, the "Hayón Universe," which places him at the forefront of the international design scene. His work conveys strength, character, and passion, while discovering delicate and exquisite forms, paying great attention to every detail and infusing everyday objects with a great deal of humor and fun. His Mediterranean character has allowed him to master the techniques of color, lightness, and so on.
His works are extremely diverse, from decorative wallpapers, lamps, tables, chairs, stools, bathroom fixtures, and furniture to slippers, clocks, and porcelain figurines, as well as interior designs for hotels, shops, fashion stores, museum spaces, and more.
