ILV* x KALDEWEI: the "Soft Strength" concept at Casa Decor Madrid

Isabel López Vilalta presents a space designed for Kaldewei that redefines the bathroom as a sensory experience.

Interior designer Isabel López Vilalta has created a space for Kaldewei at Casa Decor, conceived as an exercise in balance and sensitivity where design transcends functionality to become an intimate and emotional immersion. Through a silent dialogue, a gentle force between opposites—the industrial and the feminine, the past and the present—the project proposes a new way of understanding the bathroom as a place of pause and connection. “The design is not constructed as an explicit narrative scene, but rather as an enveloping atmosphere. The sculptural volumes reorganize the space according to a contemporary logic, generating a subtle contrast between architectural precision and the warmth of the materials. Thus, a serene environment is created that invites one to stop and observe,” explains Isabel López Vilalta.

In keeping with this idea, the tour unfolds gradually, preventing an immediate interpretation. Visitors progress through a sequence of levels that are revealed progressively, fostering a more contemplative experience. One striking element is the mirror suspended from the ceiling, which introduces an unexpected perspective and broadens the understanding of both the whole and its parts from a different point of view.

Furthermore, the experience is based on a conscious search for balance among its various elements. The architecture, light, and honest materials function as a single, integrated system: while the structure provides order, the finishes add nuances, and the lighting modulates introspection. In this way, the volumes are revealed or blurred to create a dynamic and profoundly sensory space. In addition, the incorporation of translucent fabrics and a discreet color palette introduces a delicate counterpoint that softens the composition.

“The intention wasn’t to impose an image, but to create an emotion,” explains López Vilalta, adding, “We wanted visitors to be drawn in by the surroundings, to wander through them at their leisure, and to understand them through perception, not just sight.” This approach is directly linked to the origin of the collaboration with Kaldewei, which arose from a project currently underway in San Sebastián. There, alongside architect Ignacio Quemada, the interior designer’s studio is transforming a former theater into a hotel. As a result of this process, the brand developed products in a special terracotta color whose materiality and tone have now been incorporated into Casa Decor as an essential part of the concept.

Bathroom furnishings take on a special role in the narrative, contributing to the creation of a space designed to be lived in. In this regard, the NUIO DUO Zen Edition bathtub stands out, subtly enhancing the overall experience by introducing a multisensory dimension through heat, sound, and light.

At the same time, well-being is built from the essential: proportion, lighting, and the choice of materials. Instead of focusing on the immediate, calm, quality, and timelessness are prioritized. In a more private area, the sound of water in the shower adds a sensory layer that evokes the ritual of bathing and reinforces its dimension of wellnessThis concept reflects the evolution of the bathroom as an environment dedicated to personal care.

The ILV* Isabel López Vilalta studio has built an intimate space where the balance between light, matter and form is expressed with a discreet elegance.

At this point of convergence—almost a natural fusion of architecture, materials, and experience—lies the affinity with Kaldewei, not through an explicit presence, but through a shared understanding of design: honest, durable, and mindful of its impact over time. The collaboration with the ILV studio is built precisely on this foundation, where product and architecture engage in dialogue without imposing themselves on one another. Due to its purity, resistance, and suitability for the circular economy, vitrified steel is integrated as another layer of the project. Beyond aesthetics, both visions coincide in conceiving the bathroom as an essential space where the technical and the emotional are naturally balanced. Thus, the project transcends its ephemeral nature and opens itself to a logic of continuity consistent with a design conception that looks beyond the present.

"Designed to be disassembled and reused, it will have a second life in the showroom "from Kaldewei in Germany, thus prolonging its life cycle," he concludes.
